A friend of mine had come down from the US recently and was supposed to join us the next afternoon for lunch. However, they couldn't come as they were suffering from "jetlag".
For the unknown, 'Jetlag' or 'jet lag' is a physiological condition which is a consequence of alterations to the circadian rhythm.
In non-nerd terms, it means your mind and body aren't in the same place or timezone. Now I don't mean the kind that happens when you're high and decide to have a red bull to 'expand your mind' like Jimi Hendrix.
This condition normally happens when you're travelling across he world, making big business deals. Breakfast in Australia, brunch in Shanghai,Lunch and siesta in Madrid,Tea at London, Dinner at New York and sleep at 'home sweet home'. But quite the opposite, there is a whole generation that suffer the effect without the cause being there. A whole generation of low paid, malnutrition ed, frustrated Indians who work at call centers or BPO's.
You end up saying good morning to the night. Your body says sleep, but you say work. Your mind says it's morning, but the watch says it's night. You eventually end up changing your lifestyle to something that would put Dracula and the werewolf to shame. But, that's the truth.
A whole generation live in a world with ever changing shifts. Where one day you work for the Japanese, next day for the Americans.
Some are fortunate to get shifts that stay long enough not to turn you into a Zombie. Others are not so fortunate.I live in a world where one day I'm up at 4AM to catch a cab to work and the next day, I'm up at 9 PM to catch the cab to work.( I like to tell people I work!)
Shifts that change every few days just to turn your brain into a war zone where it's torn between what it has been biologically programmed to work , but we want to make it work another.
I was wondering what my friend was talking about 'jetlag', I live it everyday. Some days it's good morning to the afternoon and good night to the morning.
We live a jet-lagged lifestyle.
Come to think of it, I'm not sure what time or day it is right now.
