Grapes are not that sour....

Life has this unusual knack of always throwing curve balls at you. And you have got to learn to keep hitting the ball out of the park. It’s like Rocky Balboa says,” The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place and it don't care how tough you are ;it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!

Some times in life, you can be the best person you can be. Be the best son you can, be the best friend you can and even be the best employee you can be; but still you’ll never get a clean break. I was always brought up on certain moral values by my parents and teachers.( God bless them!) but lately, I’ve come to the conclusion that all that was absolute rubbish. The nicer you are as a human being, the more people will walk over you. You can be the smartest one in the group and perhaps the most promising one, but there will always be that one SOB who’d bring you to your knees…and that SOB is called “life”.

I remember once being told that life demands of us only what it knows we can offer and that it will give you only those storms which it knows you can sail through. And I have come to understand that this is true. Every time I’ve been brought down to my knees and have felt I can’t get up, I seem to find something in me that gets me back up again. The last 6-7 years would have probably been the worst of my life, but it has been the best in terms of experiences. I understand myself much better now. I understand the fact that guys like me are never satisfied with status-quo. Guys like me choose things like glory and fame over fortune when push comes to shove. While I might complain about money like there is no tomorrow; I’d take fame over fortune when it matters. You can’t deny what you truly are matter what!

Recently, we were handed our appraisals at work. As always, I was on the lower end of the spectrum. Everyone seemed to have got fantastic hikes despite the so-called recession. Some how, yours truly seemed to be one of the few actually affected by it. And people asked me why I don’t quit or look for another job. It took me almost 5 days of serious thinking to understand that a moron like myself would rather take a job like this; where I get to do what I want do and be who I want to be and work how I want to work rather than jump to a different ship where I work by someone else’s rules. It’s logic that very few people seem to have understood and appreciated. But it is logic nonetheless. While this might sound like a classic case of ‘grapes are sour’; this is far from it. Hopefully, a day would come when I no longer have to compromise on anything. Money is just a small blow to me. Fortunately, I am not in the doldrums where I am desperate to make money to make ends meet. (Touch wood!!!)

Yes, agreed that I may have to stop socializing with friends, stop going to movies and hang outs with them as often as I would like to, postpone plans of buying that new guitar I wanted and maybe even sell the old one and generally cut down on the frills of life all together, but deep down inside, I strongly believe that this is a sacrifice worth making for a greater glory that I am yet to discover. I guess I’ve taken the punch, I’m down on my knees, I’ve looked to the referee to call it fair, but it doesn’t matter. I need to stand up and finish this game. Since when was kicking butt ever easy? While man does not live by bread alone, he needs his butter and jam, but man does not die on bread either. I understand what they mean when they say, “what does not kill you...makes you stronger!!!” (This does not apply to heart attacks!)
