Life & Death, from Vocation Brewery
Life & Death from Vocation Brewery is probably one of the first IPAs that showed me what people mean when they say, " This is one ballsy beer". Brought back for me from the UK by a friend, the Life & Death beer pushed my olfactory and gustation senses to a whole new plain of existence.
The moment I cracked open the can, the acute aroma of tropical and citrus fruits hit me even from an arms length distance. This aroma lasts right through till the last drop. The amber-golden coloured beer offers a big frothy head when poured with a crisp taste of tropical fruits that gives way to a malty finish. The bitterness kicks in once the fruity flavours vanish and lingers for a fair bit. This is accompanied by mild citrus notes on the tongue. At an ABV of 6.5% and an IBU that I estimate is around 60-70 ( keeping the Raging Elephant from Arbor Brewing Company Bengaluru, which is at 80 IBU as reference)
I love the artwork on the can. A nice black-matt finish with artwork describing life and death. This beer is definitely one of my all time favourites for opening up my world of IPAs. While I've had the one can, it has left me wanting more. I now need to figure out how to get my hands on other variants from Vocation Brewery too.
